    I am obviously missing something because email is not being set out from the VPS. Did I need to activate/install/configure something to have this to work?

    No email is configured besides postfix for server emails.     And check if web host blocks smtp out emails. Vultr by default blocks smtp emails until you submit a ticket to request unblocking and lastly, if your VPS server's IP address is blacklisted or doesn't have SPF DNS records you could have emails blocked at the other end.

    I use Vultr for all VPS machines. I want to be able to get atleast the emails from Maldet when it runs on the VPS. I was just wondering if the postfix software was already configured to send emails out or was their another step I needed to do.

    I'll check with Vultr and see if I can get them to take the block off - maybe that will fix it. Thanks George!

    in that case pretty sure Vultr has blocked your smtp/email ability until you get them to unblock it

    When I setup a VPS on Linode, PostFix did not start, after I started the service I was able to send mail. Just a quick FYI.. I worked on it an entire day before I went back to the basics! :D

    Yeah it helps if postfix is actually running - which it normally should for Centmin Mod these days :)

    I had the same problem a couple of days ago on a reinstall, in this case I managed to fix setting IPv4 instead of all, in /etc/postfix/main.cf and restart postfix, very strange as it had been working before for me.
    # Enable IPv4, and IPv6 if supported
    inet_protocols = ipv4
