Just got the news from my domain registrar, Internet.bs that .net domain name registration and renewal prices are increasing from February 1st, 2015 due to Verisign, the .NET domain operator raising their prices !

From my experience domain name prices only go up, so renewing multiple years in advance is always a good idea if you can afford it. Currently, I renew my domains 2-6 yrs in advance and saved heaps on multi-year discounts + a better positioned Australian dollar against US dollar back then - was AUD$1 = US$1 parity. Now Aussie dollar down to AUD$1 = US$0.80 - that's 25% more cost in terms of Aussie dollars !

namecheap's normal prices more expensive for .net at US$11.98 + 0.18 and even their Gold members discount is US$10.66 + 0.18 and whoisguard is US$2.88/domain or Gold members US$0.99/domain. While internet.bs is US$8.79 including free whois privacy.
    • namecheap + whois privacy = 11.98 + 0.18 + 2.88 = US$15.05 or US$11.83 with Gold members discount so US$3.04 to US$6.26 more expensive than internet.bs
    • internet.bs + whois privacy = US$8.79
But namecheap's special above looks good at US$3.98 + 0.18 + whoisguard free for 1st year.

You have already paid for 5 years. Why do you care about the prices anymore. Wait 5 years and then look if it is good to swtich or not.
I am also with namecheap and I wouldn't want to switch because of 5$ savings each year.It is not worth it. Each month, yeah, each year, not really.

Btw. besides .com and .net domains, do you have other tlds for your sites? Anything you would suggest @all?

transfer adds 1 more year to that 5, so new expiry date after transfer is 2021

yeah you can wait til 2020 i suppose, but by then .net prices probably raised to US$16-18/yr by then at the current rate of increase

maybe true for single or a few domains. But if you have 100s of domains, that's thousands of dollars saved on multi year renewals !

Ouch just read this namecheap.com changed transfer out policy for domains so you can not immediately finalise transfers out and need to wait 5-7 days for passive transfer Interesting changes at Namecheap for domains being transferred OUT. - LowEndTalk

Guess folks need to be careful if it's close to their domain's expiry date and they are relying on a transfer out to add additional years to their expiry ?

darn, namecheap updated their MYDD page at MoveYourDomainDay 2015 there's conditions which would exclude me

limit 50 domains and don't include domains previously transferred out of namecheap

I have some domains on namecheap, and always get caught before I can transfer out and end up paying more than I would elsewhere, I also like internetbs forward email and dns features.

Yeah only way not to get caught is pay years in advance :) or set a phone calendar reminder 7+ days in advance :)

Internet.bs is cheap when you factor in free whois privacy. But I just started using Namesilo too slightly cheaper than Internet.bs with US$8.49 .net transfer prices :)

Do you have hundreds of domains?
Yes, in this case you are correct but I doubt that anyone of us have tens of domains. If you do so, of course, I would think about a change.

for example the domains I moved to NameSilo would save me several thousands of dollars per year !
