Anybody receive the same email? :/

Hi there,

We hope that you’ve been enjoying your experience on DigitalOcean! We want to give you a heads up that you have credit that will be expiring on May 1st. You’re able to use that remaining credit in the month of April.

We’re truly sorry if this came as a surprise. As of March 2015, we revised our Terms of Service announcing that we’re no longer able to offer credits that do not expire, and any unused credit added to your account more than 12 months ago will expire. Our top priority is to continue to re-invest back into our hardware, product, and features to build the best experience for our customers.

If you have any questions about your expiring credit, or feedback about using DigitalOcean, feel free to open a ticket and our Support team will be glad to help.

Yeah i remember that notification last year of 12 month expiry of credits. Doesn't apply to me as I've been using up all my credits - mainly with my Wordpress7 2GB DigitalOcean VPS being the one that eats into my DO referral credits.

I have some credits but I have nothing Live running on DO.
All droplets are just testing and will run for 1-2 days only.

Too bad I deposited $$$ last 2014 :/

Promotional Credit
5.8 As of March 6, 2015, redemption of promotional credit is limited to 12 months from the date of issue (unless otherwise stated), at which time the credit will expire. Upon redemption, promotional credit expires after 12 months unless otherwise defined in the terms of the promotion. For instances where promotional credit was issued or redeemed prior to March 6, 2015, that credit will expire on March 6, 2016.

5.9 Only one promotional code is permitted per customer, and may be redeemed only by “new users,” defined as users who are within 30 days of launching their first Droplet.

Referral Credit
5.10 Earned credit from making a referral is limited to 12 months from the date of issue (unless otherwise stated), at which time the credit will expire. All referral payouts will be paid in DigitalOcean credit.

5.11 Sign-up credit earned via referral will expire in accordance with the terms stated in section

5.12. Furthermore, such credit will be counted as the one promotional code permitted, in accordance with the terms stated in section 5.9.

In other words,

If you have received promotional DO credit or referral credit, you must redeem it within 12 months of the date it was issued. Promotional credit expires after 12 months.

Thank you for getting in contact with us via this ticket!

We can certainly understand your concern on this matter. We are beginning to enforce the expiration of credits. This would mean that credits on the account (not related to payments from PayPal) would expire after a year's time.

As a one-time courtesy we are going to go ahead and re-apply the full value of the credits that are set to expire on the account. Please do understand this is a courtesy, and not something we will be able to do in the future. Moving forward, any unused balance from account credits will expire and be removed from your account 12 months after the credit is redeemed.

Please let us know if you have any further questions, or if we can provide you with any other assistance.

I ask them to let me use it instead of expiring it. I ask 6 months extension yet they gave me double free amount .

Well at least they sent out an email.

Bought 5 SSL certs on Namecheap on Black Friday. Go to use them, a big red "EXPIRED" is by the name. Seems that the "promo" deal expired even though I bought them. No email. No warning. No notice when I bought them that they would expire. They're credits to buy the SSL cert which is normally $9... I got them for $1. So, not a big loss but nevertheless I would've liked to be warned or notified that they were expiring.

First, we’ve updated our terms here, and put them into a GitHub repo so that you can see exactly what has changed. You can expect this for any future updates. Here are the highlights with respect to credit expiration:

Promotional credit will expire 12 months after it has been issued or redeemed. This includes referral sign-up credit, promotion codes you’ve entered, or credit issued by DigitalOcean staff.

Referral and SLA credit will now expire after 12 months of account inactivity, and no sooner than May 2017. This includes credits earned from referring customers to DigitalOcean and SLA credits.

Additionally, all credit redemption email notifications from now on will link to our terms about credit expiration so our policy is clear to future customers. Soon, we’ll be able to expose the credit expiration date on your billing page as well.

Secondly, we’re emailing all of customers with much more detail about changes in our terms, which will be our process on all future changes. We’re also providing a control panel notification with more detail and links to the GitHub repo. As time progresses, our aim is to provide more than 60 days notice for any expiring credits.
