Dedi server same as VPS?

    I've always used VPSs and never actually owned a dedicated server. I know the main differences between them but under the hood (aka in the control panel of the hosting company where you boot the server, etc), is it the same as a VPS for setting up or is there more to it?

    I'd just like to know what I'm heading into in the future before actually getting one.

    For dedicated servers for Centmin Mod usage basically same as VPS just more dedicated resources solely for yourself :)

    If you mean for web hosts providing OpenVZ/KVM/Xen VPS hosting, there's alot more to it to configure a host node to be divided into virtualised VPS servers.

    Just want to move from a VPS to a dedi when the time comes. I have to plans to split it up. Just need to host the site(s) on one server when/if I outgrow my VPS resources.

    I do plan to use CMM on it but before I install CMM, I normally have to set up the VPS from the control panel of my host (booting, choosing an OS, etc). Is that process the same to a VPS?

    Yes if you intend to use dedicated like vps as one whole big server. If you want to divide dedicated into isolated VPSes then no not the same much much more involved and would require a level of understanding for networking etc, disk partitioning and firewalls etc !
