   I personally never use the FTP user that is created when I add a new vhost domain.
   
   Could this be optional? It appears that it isn't optional. I'm just worried that this might be a point of attack, especially if the user isn't used.
   
   Maybe a user has to be created. I don't know. I just was wondering if this could be an option vs. required.

   if you disable Pure-ftpd as outlined at Pure-FTPD Virtual FTP Users - CentminMod.com LEMP Nginx web stack for CentOS then the pure-ftpd virtual ftp user is disabled on new centmin.sh nginx vhost creation on centmin.sh menu options 2 and 22 and /usr/bin/nv command line vhost generation
