I wonder what it'll mean for cPanel's future.. probably nothing will change.

cPanel price increase just like Oakley Capital did before with Plesk.
Because the investment has to be earned back.

    Plesk Pricing:
Increased again a few months ago.

Interesting point brought up at WHT thread discussion about shared hosting market that cPanel targets being eaten up by competition and I thought about Centmin Mod's contribution to that. If this thread is anything to go by, then quite a few Centmin Mod users where previously using cPanel or Plesk What were you using before switching to Centminmod?. At current estimated rate, there is around 2,000 to 3,000 new Centmin Mod installations per month or around 24,000 to 36,000 new installs per year !

Then there's other pre-packaged LEMP/LNMP, LAMP and OpenLiteSpeed/LiteSpeed solutions and a lot more Docker container based web stack solutions coming out and services like runcloud/serverpilot and managed wordpress/drupal/joomla/magento hosting services all eating into the traditional shared hosting market that Plesk and cPanel target!

Seen it all before. It's a conscious choice, ensure that there are no choices and competition because they have all been bought by the same owner (Oakley Capital).

After that Oakley will greatly increase the prices everywhere so that customers can not switch to a serious alternative to shared hosting panels.
Because it simply is no longer there.

Indeed.. that can be a possibility. At least the value of each of those cPanel/Plesk licenses even on increased prices can usually go much further these days given new server hardware capabilities in handling more shared hosting accounts per server than previous older generations of server hardware.

    for me
    • 97.5% of servers = using Centmin Mod
    • 2.5% of servers = using cPanel
