I read there have poor tech support and sometimes hardware related downtime. Google search and see :)

My experience there in the past.
Economies of scale principle: Own datacenter, Desktop chassis, i7 cpu's (2009/2010), non ECC memory and perhaps overselling etc.

Used their biggest plans for crawling and I can say they are complete sh. Also a former employee who cares a lot about quality told me to run as fast as possible from them.
They sell unrealistic specs at unrealistic pricing with very poor performance.

I've used both dedicated and vps from contabo before, they both weren't bad, I didn't have any issues whatsoever. But a point to note, I only ran a few low traffic sites on them and I didn't push the vps to it's limits, so I'm not sure if I was able to get the performance they were promising. I had put in a few tickets and they always responded to me within 24 hours, so I can't say that their customer service was poor. In my opinion their prices vs their "guaranteed" specs just don't add up, and one of the reasons why I moved away was because I didn't want to risk having to move servers after some of the sites become established, I'd rather go with something that I know will work so theres some sort of long term continuity. Due to my work commitments I'm sometimes offline for a month at a time and would be unavailable to deal with catastrophic server issues.

I have to admit I treated them like I had all the whole node for me.
I do the same thing with leaseweb and ovh whom I think have openstack and I've never received any complaints.
I'm only with leaseweb SG with 2x of their 8tb plans which I've grabbed for cheap and I'm always able to use all their bw. Also I have a smaller plan in NL with 6tb and putting them to its limits it's not an issue.
We do heavy lzma compression as well as html parsing and believe me it needs a lot of resources to handle that.
