I am starting out with a brand new and crispy fresh 1024mb Linode. This will run a single Xenforo forum.

I see that the minimum CentminMod requirements for CentOS 6.5 is only 256mb of memory, but is 1024mb memory for 7.

With only having a 1024mb Linode (unfortunately can't afford the 2048mb plan) is it recommend to go with CentOS 6.5 over 7 due to memory limits? Or are there enough improvements to warrant running 7 with only 1024mb?

Just use CentOS 6 for that Linode plan.

Thanks for the quick response RoldanLT. I will spin up a CentOS 6 now and get to work.

Yeah CentOS 6.x would be best for a 1GB VPS
