    Hello,

gonna restart my project and want to create a new Xenforo 2 forum.

I want to use a low end package with 1 CPU, 2GB Ram and 20GB SSD (probabaly Hetzner).
I assume the system will run on OpenVZ.

Should I go with CentOS 6 or 7 for CentmindMod?

The install guide says CentOS 7 requires more Ram, so I thought I should take CentOS 6 over 7, unless you suggest otherwise.

Centos 7 should be fine with 2GB Ram and for me is recommended :)

Why 7 over 6? What are the advantages?
And what if I should go with 1GB ram, still CentOS7?

Double the install guides recommendations at Centmin Mod LEMP Stack Install Nginx on CentOS

2GB is fine for CentOS 7 and these days CentOS 7 is best with better performance over CentOS 6 and upstream Redhat which CentOS gets it's code and packages from is more up to date when yum packages and security updates are released. Use Centmin Mod 123.09beta01 too as it has way more optimisations and performance improvements if you check the change log.

1GB ram on CentOS 7 is fine it's listed as minimum recommended size and works fine. 20GB might be small on disk size seeing as Hetzner uses KVM IIRC and especially if you intend to also have backups etc. Any particular reason using Hetzner ? geographic location preference ? Have you checked out Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting ?

    Thanks.
    Went with CentOS 7.
And also used beta01, I'm setting the server up at the moment.
Hetzner because I don't need much in the beginning, so it is cheap and good enough and also geographic location preference.

    Quick question.
After I did the vhost setup, updating php/mariadb versions, is there anything else I have to do for being able to host Xenforo? I don't remember, it is a years ago last time I did that.

    Speaking about EL6 vs EL7.
I only notice noteworthy speed differences on dedicated servers.

If you are using brand new hardware with the latest specs.
It could be possible that EL6 won't work as no new functions are being developed anymore.
EL6 is on Maintenance Support 1 so only security and bug fix updates.

For VPS production servers I always use EL6.
Rock stable, low memory and NO systemd, polkit etc.

Separate from production. If you go to test. Then it does not matter.
