Does Centmin Mod Run Good on a 512MB RAM VPS?

    Hello! I would like to install and use Centmin Mod on a 512MB RAM VPS in DigitalOcean. Is it okay? Because the recommended is 1GB. Please assist and tell the pros and cons.

    You might run out of ram and your server crash but if you don't have that many visitors i don't think that is a problem. Also you can upgrade ongoing if this is an issue.


    P.S. If its about budget you can get from Vultr with 5$ 1GB

    Yes DigitalOcean allows VPS upgrades so you can start with 512MB VPS and move to 1GB VPS later if you want.

    official minimum and recommended resources are outlined on install page at Centmin Mod LEMP Stack Install Nginx on CentOS. 512MB VPS will work generally with CentOS 6 NOT CentOS 7 and depends on what you intend to install web app wise.

    Pay attention to separate recommendations for CentOS 6 vs 7 and OpenVZ vs non-OpenVZ systems as well as note on whether or not you will use PHP composer.

    Thanks, @eva2000 for the information. I would like to host 5 WordPress sites out of which each is expected to get 100k views per month. I just started out, so you know, I can't start big. I'm actually running on 512MB Ubuntu droplet now and I have done a load test which successfully handled a million visits. Stack: Nginx (Optimized from Linode docs), PHP 7.1, Varnish, MariaDB & Redis. So, just wanted to know if Centmin Mod could handle this sort of traffic on a 512MB VPS. Please advise.

    I'm a noob. So, I just wanna ask. If there is a need for more RAM, that is okay, but what does it gotta do with more storage?

    Over time your disk usage will increase, so having a plan for the future is important to ensure you have enough disk space for your sites + server software's required usage + any backups you plan to make. FYI, CentOS 7 for just the OS itself recommends 20GB disk space but depends on the ISO image provided by web host which can differ between web hosts.

    But as per Guide to learning more about Centmin Mod, rather than jump in with live site, setting up a test Centmin Mod VPS server is best so you get to know the environment without fear of making mistakes :)
