Centmin Mod Community forum is now online at http://community.centminmod.com. The forum is hosted on a 2GB Linode SSD based VPS server (edit updated to 4GB VPS). :)

    Background
Up until now CentminMod.com has been using Google+ Community so that Centmin Mod users to converse with each other. There are currently 300 Google+ Community members.

However, alot of users have asked about a proper forum setup, so for a while now I have been deciding on which forum software to go with and the final choice was between NodeBB which is a Node.js based forum with Redis backend database or Xenforo for traditional PHP + MySQL setup.

    Choice of Xenforo & NodeBB
My first choice was Node.js based forum NodeBB as they also have a Ghost Node.js Blogging platform plugin integration support (been playing with Ghost at http://ghost.centminmod.com). However, NodeBB development is still in the early stages currently at version 0.4.3 so there's alot of changes to work through and bugs to run up against. So, I ended up deciding to use Xenforo for the stable community forums and set aside a test development NodeBB installation which will import Xenforo data to. This way I can have a stable community forum on Xenforo and also play with NodeBB and Node.js as it goes through it's development phases.

    Main Purpose
I am using Node.js based Ghost Blogging Platform and NodeBB forums as a way of testing my Centmin Mod LEMP stack's Node.js support in Centmin Mod v1.2.3-eva2000.07+ and higher releases and support for Node.js is provided through Centmin Mod official passenger.sh Addon which installs Phusion Passenger support for Nginx along with Node.js, Ruby, RubyGems, Rails etc.

    Xenforo Help

Plans for forum public release announcement

Step 1. Invite known Centmin Mod users for private password protected access to the forums, so they can get first dibs on their usernames and first to provide feedback
Step 2. Invite Centmin Mod Google+ Community members for private password protected access to the forums
Step 3. Invite and announce it publicly on Centminmod.com etc. Ideally, would like to have a matching style/theme for Centminmod.com and the forums by then.
Step 4. Invite Facebook & Twitter followers

Tomorrow morning will mark the first week that this forum has been online.

So tomorrow as an extension of Step 2 and part of Step 3, I will be changing the short url http://centminmod.com/gcom redirect from the Google+ Community link directly to the forums http://community.centminmod.com/ and removing the password protection from the forums and let folks just come on by through the http://centminmod.com/gcom redirect.

It's time folks actually found the forums :D
