Centmin Mod AlmaLinux 10 & Rocky Linux 10 Compatibility Worklog

Like the CentOS/Alma Linux/Rocky Linux 8/9 (EL8EL9) compatibility worklog thread, this thread is for Centmin Mod's compatibility work for CentOS Stream 10, AlmaLinux 10, and Rocky Linux 10. Luckily, the most significant changes occurred from EL7 to EL8/EL9, so my current work with Centmin Mod and EL10 compatibility is relatively straightforward and has advanced further.

Notes For EL10

If you use older CPUs that are x86-64-v2 architecture, only consider using AlmaLinux 10, as Rocky Linux 10 and CentOS 10 Stream follow Redhat Enterprise Linux 10 and have removed x86-64-v2 older cpu support. x86-64-v2 cpus go back to Intel Nehalem 2008 - Intel Ivy Bridge 2012/Tremont 2020 and AMD Bulldozer 2011 to AMD Puma 2014.

For AlmaLinux 10:

• AlmaLinux 10, unlike RedHat and Rocky Linux 10, deviates to re-add support for the older x86-64-v2 architecture that upstream RedHat and Rocky Linux 10 removed.
• Starting with AlmaLinux OS 10.0 version a new architecture was added - x86-64-v2.
  • RHEL is increasing the architecture version baseline to v3 dropping support for numerous older CPUs (and some newer ones). In AlmaLinux OS 10, we will follow Red Hat’s decision to ship x86-64-v3 optimized binaries by default, but we will also provide additional x86-64-v2 architecture ONLY for older hardware. All 3rd party packages for RHEL10 will target x86-64-v3, while the x86-64-v2 release of AlmaLinux OS 10 will only be suitable for workloads where using the default OS package set is enough, or where users will be able to rebuild any additional packages they require for x86-64-v2 architecture themselves.
  • ALESCo approved (opens new window)rebuilding EPEL for 10 packages x86-64-v2 users.
• Enabled frame pointers by default. This enables system-wide real-time tracing and profiling for optimizing the performance of any workload running on AlmaLinux OS.
• The following device drivers were modified to re-add PCI IDs for hardware that was previously disabled in RHEL:
  • aacraid - Dell PERC2, 2/Si, 3/Si, 3/Di, Adaptec Advanced Raid Products, HP NetRAID-4M, IBM ServeRAID & ICP SCSI
  • be2iscsi - Emulex OneConnectOpen-iSCSI for BladeEngine 2 and 3 adapters
  • be2net - Emulex BladeEngine 2 and 3 adapters *
  • hpsa - HP Smart Array Controller
  • lpfc - Emulex LightPulse Fibre Channel SCSI
  • megaraid_sas - Broadcom MegaRAID SAS
  • mlx4_core - Mellanox Gen2, ConnectX-2, ConnectX-3 adapters
  • mpt3sas - LSI MPT Fusion SAS 3.0
  • mptsas - Fusion MPT SAS Host
  • qla2xxx - QLogic Fibre Channel HBA
  • qla4xxx - QLogic iSCSI HBA

For Rocky Linux 10:

• On the x86_64 processor architecture, RL 10 no longer supports hardware at the x86-64-v2 microarchitecture level and earlier, and makes the x86-64-v3 microarchitecture level the baseline for distribution. For more information, refer to the Supported Microarchitecture Levels section, particularly the section on testing the CPU for compatibility.
• The x86-64-v3 microarchitecture is based on the feature set of the Intel Haswell processor generation. A handful of Intel Atom processors (such as the Gracemont-family processors) support x86-64-v3. In contrast, others, including Intel Atom Parker Ridge-family processors and the Intel Atom x6416RE Elkhart Lake-family processor, do not provide x86-64-v3 features and are therefore not supported in RL 10. If you doubt your processor's compatibility, use this procedure to verify.
• AMD's implementation of the x86-64-v3 microarchitecture level, which serves as the baseline for Rocky Linux 10 on x86_64, was introduced with their Excavator microarchitecture. This means that processors older than those based on the Excavator architecture may not be fully supported by Rocky Linux 10.
• There's been discussions and demand from users to ask Rocky Linux 10 to re-add x86-64-v2 CPU architecture support Run Rocky10 on x86_64-v2, x86_64-v1 initiative and Future of x86_64-v2 support
• Deprecation of the old ifcfg-rh network scripts occurred in previous versions of AlmaLinux/Rocky Linux (9.x). With AlmaLinux/Rocky Linux 10, these scripts are no longer available. You must use NetworkManager now. Those tools include nmcli, nmtui, and nmstate. This means that some older files and commands will no longer work, and the location where you keep your network configuration files has also changed.
  • Files with the ifcfg- prefix in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ directory are not supported.
  • The ifup and ifdown commands are no longer available.
  • Legacy network scripts, such as ifup-local, are no longer supported.
  • Network configuration files are stored in the /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ folder.

Notes For Centmin Mod EL10 Development

• Will only support x86_64 architecture and not ARM (aarch64)
• Will default to MariaDB 10.11 LTS long service supported release
• Will optionally support MariaDB 11.4 LTS and MariaDB 11.8 LTS
• Will default to PHP-FPM 8.3.x
• Might be last release with CSF Firewall support for EL10 operating systems https://community.centminmod.com/threads/csf-firewall-closing-down-august-31-2025.28985/ and/or support for an alternative implementation https://community.centminmod.com/threads/csf-firewall-alternative-csfa-nftables-wrapper-script-demo.29283/. Still testing this.
• Like with previous EL8 and EL9 early development, EL10 will eventually have a dedicated private beta forum to invite Centmin Mod users who are willing to test 141.00beta01 with AlmaLinux 10 etc

AlmaLinux 10 automated GitHub workflow testing prior to October 15, 2025, was done using AlmaLinux 10 Kitten. After October 15, 2025, was done using AlmaLinux 10.0 Purple Lion.

Currently focused on AlmaLinux 10 with default MariaDB 10.11 LTS and MariaDB 11.8 LTS testing.

Centmin Mod 141.00beta01 has new SSH login MOTD login interface design and layout toggle variables for more compact designs. The 2 new variables are self-explanatory that you can set in persistent config file /etc/centminmod/custom_config.inc for. Update: As of May 20, 2026, these 2 are enabled by default so you no longer need to set in persistent config file /etc/centminmod/custom_config.inc
