Since I installed centminmod on vultr.com vps I noticed that once in a while the process mentioned in subject starts to load my cpu 100% and I have to kill it.

I noticed that it probably happens when I don't exit centmin menu correctly from SSH but I'm not sure.

Please advise as this is frustrating.

    Yeah that' expected.
You should exit the menu via menu #24.

Can you explain what's happening? why does it start to load cpu if you don't exit it correctly?

Is there some kind of fail-safe mechanism that can be implemented?

AFAIK, it's probably to do with the fact the menu is a while loop function. So it probably keeps looping if not properly exited. Unfortunately, due to it's loop which allows it (menu) to do what it does, exiting via menu option 24 is the proper way to do it and shouldn't be that difficult for you to remember to do ;)
