Sysadmin Anyone tried RSnapShot alternative: Obnam

Never used it but I've been using Welcome to Attic — Attic - Deduplicating Archiver 0.16 documentation for a while now and no issues so far.

 

I have for some time now looked at the tool, @Ahmad is using - Welcome to Attic — Attic - Deduplicating Archiver 0.16 documentation - but never took the last step and get it started. Perhaps I will when my centminmod goes live.

Will also take at look at @ethanpil suggestions and see what that is all about but have never stumbled on it.

 

After a little non scientific test I personally ended up with - Borg Documentation — Borg - Deduplicating Archiver 0.30.0 documentation - as my choice. The use of it is similar to - Welcome to Attic — Attic - Deduplicating Archiver 0.16 documentation - but has as more active development - GitHub - borgbackup/borg: Deduplicating backup program with compression and authenticated encryption. - and that is a good point for me. I did read some post about - Obnam - backup program - being slow in some cases. But have never tested it.

Hope it not to much OT - but as @ethanpil mention in this post - https://community.centminmod.com/posts/24854/ - I also think we should have some backup out of centminmod box ..

 

It is for premium members only, worth the money plus you support centminmod this way too

 

Very well indeed - this coming weekend I will try to do more 'advanced' stuff with it.. For now I just have a cron to do the basic backup to another disc and then one more time to another disc/another server - mounted with sshfs. Love it is at strong word - but I'm near to say it. ;-)

 

@ethanpil - I just took one manually backup local/remote so you can see - Do not use so much time..
