Introducing WorkMail
Today I would like to introduce Amazon WorkMail. This managed email and calendaring solution runs in the Cloud. It offers a unique set of security controls and works with your existing desktop and mobile clients (there’s also a browser-based interface). If your organization already has a directory of its own, WorkMail can make use of it via the recently introduced AWS Directory Service. If not, WorkMail will use Directory Service to create a directory for you as part of the setup process.

WorkMail was designed to work with your existing PC and Mac-based Outlook clients including the prepackaged Click-to-Run versions. It also works with mobile clients that speak the Exchange ActiveSync protocol.

Our 30-day free trial will give you the time and the resources to evaluate WorkMail in your own environment. As part of the trial, you can serve up to 25 users, with 50 gigabytes of email storage per employee. In order to help you to move your organization to WorkMail, we also provide you with a mailbox migration tool.

WorkMail makes use of a number of AWS services including Amazon WorkDocs (formerly known as Amazon Zocalo), the Directory Service, AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS Key Management Service (KMS), and Amazon Simple Email Service (SES).

Q: Is there a free trial for Amazon WorkMail?

Yes. You can activate up to 25 users at no charge for the first 30 days after you sign up for Amazon WorkMail. After this period ends, you are charged for all active users unless you remove them or deregister your Amazon WorkMail account.

Q: How will my business be charged for use of Amazon WorkMail?
There are no upfront fees or commitments to begin using Amazon WorkMail. At the end of the month, you are billed for that month's usage. You can view estimated charges for the current billing period by logging into the AWS Management Console and clicking on "Account Activity." You can get started with a free trial of Amazon WorkMail and activate up to 25 user accounts at no charge for the first 30 days.
You are charged for the number of user accounts per month. The number of users billed in a month is based on the average number of active user accounts throughout the month. For every user account, your business is charged a monthly subscription fee. If a user account is deactivated during the month, the monthly subscription fee for that account will be prorated based on the number of active days. For more information on how pricing works, see the pricing page.
During the Preview, there is no charge for Amazon WorkMail. After the Preview, you will be charged for the number of user accounts created.

Still trying to find technical info on their email sending limits etc. But Amazon WorkMail uses Amazon SES for sending part of email delivery so could be same limits as Amazon SES outlined at Limits in Amazon SES - Amazon Simple Email Service ?

Sending quota: 10,000 emails per 24-hour period.

Maximum send rate: 5 emails per second.

To increase your sending limits, you can wait for Amazon SES to increase your limits automatically, or you can submit a case in Support Center. For more information about both methods, see Increasing Your Amazon SES Sending Limits.

Increasing Your Amazon SES Sending Limits - Amazon Simple Email Service

Once you have been granted production access, your sending limits will increase if you are sending high-quality content and we detect that your utilization is approaching your current limits. Often, the system will automatically increase your quota before you actually need it, and no further action is needed.

If your existing quota is not adequate for your needs and the system has not automatically increased your quota, you can open an SES Sending Quota Increase case in Support Center to increase your sending quota. Because sending limits for each AWS region are separate, you will need to submit a separate SES Sending Quota Increase case for each region in which you want to increase your sending limits. In the case submission form, please let us know the AWS region for which you are requesting the increase, and why you need higher limits.

Re-reading FAQ - darn Amazon WorkMail doesn't support pop3 and imap clients !!! So that rules it out for me !

Workmail is expensive @ $4 per user.

I was looking to move from Protonmail, but then I checked out the prices at other places. On protonmail.com visionary level I get 6 users, 20GB of storage, 50 Addresses (protonmail / custom) and 10 custom domains. If I pay annually it's $24 per month. If I pay monthly it's $30 a month.

Think that workmail is not that expensive, given the fsct that it is business email.
Although Gmail and office 365 is more bang for bucks. In my view.

At most places, 1 user = 1 domain. I get 10 at PM. But I get your point.

I'm just trying to find the cheapest alternative. Honestly, I just want something with POP and I'll go the desktop route.

Looks like Namecheap is one of the cheapest @ around 90 cents per month per mailbox (9.95 per year).

Thinking G Suite might be the best for me.

Yup mentioned at Email - Free @yourdomain.com Email Accounts & Alternatives Google App/GSuite supports domain aliases so you can have multiple domains as secondary to primary domain so user @ domainprimary.com will have alias as user @ domainsecondary.com going to same primary account. I do this for alot of my Google GSuite domains
