No it won't automatically save your existing forum files at all as xenforo wouldn't see the new mounted block storage. You need to format the mounted new block storage device How To Partition and Format DigitalOcean Block Storage Volumes in Linux | DigitalOcean and do what you will with it - like mount to path of attachment directory or mount bind or symlink methods etc.

though seeing as block storage is new, i'd probably testing it out and wait and see how stable it is before doing something as important as using it for forum attachments

 

forum attachments would need to be within one directory not both (old and new)

 

yeah best to ask on xenforo forum to be 100% sure of config.php changes needed

 

symlink means xenforo can't tell the difference with original path for attachments so should be all that is needed. Though i'd be cautious about DO block storage for something as important until you test and wait and see for bugs etc

You want K not L

L will delete the symlink on receiving end and copy the real linked files/directories - quick google How can I prevent rsync replacing symbolic links with new directories in the target directory hierarchy? - Server Fault

 

actually had it other way round for source to target -L

 

just test with rsync dry run and see
