Install AlmaLinux vs. Rocky Linux

Which do you prefer between AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux

    I've got 2 servers live now on the beta version of CentminMod... I'm trying to decide which OS to move to in the future. I've got an AlmaLinux 9 install working fine and a Rocky 9 Linux install working fine. I can't tell a difference... but I'd like to make a decision and stick with a single platform.

    I have no political dog in the fight, I just want to use whichever one will be around longer and provide a better platform.

    I've searched for discussions and can't really find a good difference between the 2, but Google Trends definitely seems to think that Rocky Linux is more popular.... at least by their metrics.

    Comes down to your stance on their respective methods of getting sources etc and if you need strict 1:1 binary/ABI compatibility reproduction due to Redhat restricting their source code access. AlmaLinux chose to diverge in the way they obtain the source code and development The Future of AlmaLinux is Bright



    If you need strict 1:1 binary compatibility, then Rocky Linux. Otherwise AlmaLinux.

    Personally, I prefer AlmaLinux as web hosting industry leans that way given their history and experience with Cloud Linux, Tuxcare and KernelCare etc. And I like that AlmaLinux isn't locked into upstream way of things. It aligns alot with how Centmin Mod itself is developed. Centmin Mod source compiles Nginx and PHP-FPM allowing it to patch the code on the fly with fixes and features that are not available in upstream original Nginx and PHP-FPM source code built binaries.     FYI, one of the reasons I developed Centmin Mod the way it is, is for this very reason. I felt standard distro versions were too slow to adopt new features or updates. For instance OpenSSL 3.4.0 was announced yesterday and Centmin Mod 140.00beta01 already added optional OpenSSL 3.4.0 support for front site facing Centmin Mod Nginx server https://community.centminmod.com/th...-openssl-3-4-0-support-in-140-00beta01.26665/.

    So now Centmin Mod Nginx supports optionally OpenSSL 1.1.1/3.0/3.1/3.2/3.3/3.4, QuicTLS OpenSSL forks 1.1.1/3.0-3.3, LibreSSL, BoringSSL and AWS-LC crypto libraries https://community.centminmod.com/threads/openssl-1-1-1-eol-alternatives.25488/ :D

    AlmaLinux 10 is getting early development too Introducing AlmaLinux OS Kitten and highlights their development changes which can occur because they aren't locked into 1:1 binary compatibility with upstream Redhat :)

    It can be a contentious debate as one persons pros for one way/method is another persons cons.
