More of a what if than anything...

Noting that up till now, centmin was fairly bound to centos7 and that in effective blocked arm support.I know it came up a few times. I do think ARM's time is coming for servers, although what one would do with the extra 70cpu's is anyones guess.

With Alma8 having arm support, and a few places offering arm servers, like hetzner & ampere, amazon, scaleway etc.

I got to wondering; rather than doing, what/where might arm support be going forwards?

If I can find a lo-cost; no setup fees, option I might take it out for a spin, unless it's still a hard known no.

    Thoughts?

ARM (specifically the one from Hetzner) is so Powerful and Cheap.

    I have this one: https://www.hetzner.com/dedicated-rootserver/rx220
for a client running on Ubuntu 22.04, Nginx 1.23.x, PHP 8.1.x, MariaDB 10.6.x, and Redis 6.x.

It has some drawbacks, as some PPAs and repos don't have ARM support.

For CMM, I'm not sure if Eva would support ARM Rhel8/9 OS.

ARM cpu support has long been on my to-do/wish list even before CentOS 7 heh. But as you said OS and 3rd party repo support for ARM was never there yet. EL8+ ARM support is something I'd like to do once EL8 support stable and done. But probably won't be a priority until EL9 support is better developed. So still a way off.

Ultimately, it depends on 3rd party repo/package support for ARM too.
